Abstract

The object is to provide a surface modification method of an Mg-Al-Ca based alloy that enables formation of an oxide film without damaging a base material. The surface modification method of an Mg-Al-Ca based alloy according to the present disclosure includes: immerging an Mg-Al-Ca based alloy in an alkali solution, and irradiating a surface of the Mg-Al-Ca based alloy immersed in the alkali solution with laser light at a power density that is less than or equal to 60 W/mm<2> and a heat input amount that is less than or equal to 5 mJ. It is preferable that the heat input amount be greater than or equal to 0.3 mJ and less than or equal to 4 mJ.
