Abstract

A thermal spray apparatus to apply coatings to external and internal surfaces in restricted areas is provided. The apparatus includes: a combustion chamber (14) having a primary passage (26) for combustion of fuel received through a fuel input line with oxygen or air received through an oxidizing gas input line; a divergence section (16) located downstream of the combustion chamber (14); an elbow housing (18) located downstream of the divergence section (16). A nozzle housing (46) retaining a nozzle (22) having an injection zone (25) and a nozzle throat (23); a convergence section retained between the elbow housing (18) and the nozzle housing (46); a feedstock injector for the injection of feedstock material into the injection zone (25) of said nozzle (22); and a plurality of passageways (32) extending through the combustion chamber (14), the divergence section (16), the elbow housing (18), and the convergence section for passing a coolant therethrough.
