Abstract

A panoramic X-ray imaging apparatus (20, 200) includes: an X-ray generating unit (42); an X-ray detecting unit (44); a support (40), for example, a turning arm, that supports the X-ray generating unit (42) and the X-ray detecting unit (44); a drive mechanism (60) that turns at least the X-ray generating unit (42) and the X-ray detecting unit (44) by driving the support (40); a displacement mechanism (82, 47), for example, a vertical drive unit, that adds movement including a displacement component in a direction different from the turning to the X-ray detecting unit (44); a subject holding unit (32) that holds an imaging subject; a turning controller (100, 202), for example, a imaging controller, that controls the turning by a drive mechanism and the displacement mechanism (82, 47). The turning controller (100, 202) controls the drive mechanism and the displacement mechanism (82, 47) so as to add the movement avoiding the contact with the shoulder (S) of the imaging subject during the turning of the X-ray generating unit (42) and the X-ray detecting unit (44) by the drive mechanism during the panoramic X-ray imaging.
