Abstract

Aspects of the present invention relate to a cutting apparatus (34) for a header of an agricultural harvester, a header (18) including the cutting apparatus, an agricultural harvester (10) including the header and a method (150) of controlling the cutting apparatus. The apparatus (34) comprises: a first wheel (114) and a second wheel (116); a drive source (118) configured to selectively drive the first wheel (114) in a clockwise direction or an anticlockwise direction; a knife carrier (104) comprising a loop having a running side and a knife-carrying side, that is tensioned around the first and second wheels (114, 116) for transmitting torque from the drive source (118) to rotate the wheels (114, 116) and the knife carrier (104); a plurality of knives (102) for cutting crop mounted to the knife-carrying surface of the knife carrier (104); and a sensor (120) for monitoring operation of the knives (102).
