Abstract

An apparatus has: a first member; a shaft rotatable relative to the first member about an axis (A); and a seal system (100). The seal system (100) has: a seal (102) carried by the first member and having a seal face (106); a seal housing (130); a seat (104) carried by the shaft and having a seat face (108) in sliding sealing engagement with the seal face (106); and a plurality of coil springs (132) biasing the seal face (106) against the seat face (108), each coil spring (132) having a first end (162) and a second end (164). The seal (102) has a plurality of spring compartments (170). Each of the plurality of coil springs (132) is partially within a respective associated compartment (170) of the plurality of spring compartments (170).
