Abstract

A lubricating oil composition comprises at least 50 percent by mass, based on the mass of the composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 25 percent by mass, based on the mass of the composition, of a compound having structure (I): <img class="EMIRef" id="40c985ae-2672-4cde-a31d-41313df063ef-ia01" /> wherein R<1> and R<2> are the same or different and are linear or branched alkyl groups having from 2 to 10, preferably from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The compositions provide wear protection between sliding metal contacts, such as may be found in engines.
