Abstract

A pneumatic tire (10) is disclosed comprising a tread (12), a carcass (18) situated below the tread (18) for acting as a supporting structure for the tread (12), and a fiber-reinforced rubber layer (26) situated between the carcass (18) and the tread (12). The fiber-reinforced rubber layer (26) includes a rubber compound comprising: 100 parts of one or more rubbers wherein the one or more rubbers is the total amount of rubber for the rubber compound; one or more types of fiber (28) selected from nylon, aramid, carbon, cotton, and polyester, the aramid fiber, if used, including pulp and/or aramid fiber; a crosslinking agent and/or a vulcanizing agent wherein the crosslinking agent includes a dithiodicarboxylic acid and wherein the vulcanizing agent includes a dimaleimide, the dithiodicarboxylic acid, if used, being present in the rubber compound in an amount from 0.1 to 5 phr, alternatively from 0.5 phr to 3 phr, and the dimaleimide, if used, being present in the rubber compound in an amount from 0.1 to 5 phr, alternatively from 0.5 phr to 2 phr; and carbon black and/or silica.
