Abstract

There are provided measures for enabling/realizing a User Plane Function (UPF) decomposition in a mobile communication system. Such measures exemplarily comprise that a user plane function (UPF) element or instance in a mobile communication system configures a user plane function decomposition structure for decomposing a functionality of the user plane function element or instance, and advertises information on the user plane function decomposition structure (such as a profile). The structure comprising multiple entities and multiple identifiers, wherein each entity is dedicated to perform at least part of the functionality of the user plane function element or instance and is associated to one of the identifiers, and the entities associated to a same identifier belong to a same entity set defining a set of entities which may be functionally equivalent, interchangeable and sharing context data.
