Abstract

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The method may be performed by a UE (104, 250, 710, 802, 902, 1002, 1102, 1202, 1302). In certain configurations, the UE (104, 250, 710, 802, 902, 1002, 1102, 1202, 1302) activates an unavailability period (838, 938, 1070, 1170, 1238, 1338). The UE (104, 250, 710, 802, 902, 1002, 1102, 1202, 1302) stops one or more first non-access stratum (NAS) timers (822) and allows one or more second NAS timers (824) to run when the unavailability period (838, 938, 1070, 1170, 1238, 1338) is activated. The unavailability period (838, 938, 1070, 1170, 1238, 1338) may be activated by transmitting, to a network, a request message for initiating a procedure and indicating the unavailability period (838, 938, 1070, 1170, 1238, 1338). The procedure may be an initial registration procedure, an attach procedure, a tracking area updating procedure or a mobility registration update procedure. Alternatively, the procedure may be a UE-initiated deregistration procedure or a UE-initiated detach procedure.
