Abstract

The present invention relates to a Braking device (10) for braking a shaft (12) of an escalator, the braking device comprisinga brake disc (14), designed for rotationally fixed attachment to the shaft (12) of the escalator, the brake disc (14) having at least one braking surface (15) with a respective main extension plane (E);at least one friction element (18) pivotally mounted perpendicular to the main extension plane (E) for frictionally applying a braking force to the at least one braking surface (15); andan actuating means (26) for spacing the at least one friction element (18) from the at least one braking surface (15) and/or applying the at least one friction element (18) to the at least one braking surface (15).Furthermore, the present invention relates to an escalator comprising a braking device (10) acting on a shaft (12) of the escalator.
