Abstract

The invention relates to a method for using a user equipment with at least one telecommunications network, wherein the user equipment is connected to the telecommunications network using an access network of or assigned to or associated with the telecommunications network and the telecommunications network further comprising a core network to which the user equipment is connected, wherein the user equipment is used with the telecommunications network by means of transmitting and/or receiving user plane data and control plane data, wherein, regarding user plane data exchanged between the user equipment and the telecommunications network , at least either a first user plane mode of operation or a second user plane mode of operation is able to be used for a given access technology, wherein the method comprises the following steps: -- in a first step, the user equipment transmits a capability information to the telecommunications network , the capability information being related to a capability of the user equipment to apply or to use the first user plane mode of operation and/or the second user plane mode of operation, -- in a second step, the first user plane mode of operation or the second user plane mode of operation is applied in accordance with the capability information.
