Abstract
A switching module (10<sub>p</sub>) is described. The switching module (10<sub>p</sub>) comprises an H-bridge circuit (16) with bidirectional switches (S1-S4) and an active clamp (18) with switches (S5-S8) that are also arranged as an H-bridge. A process of commutating the switching module (10<sub>p</sub>) comprises a sequence of alternating first and second commutation events. The timing signals used to control the switches (S1-S8) during each commutation event are varied according to closed loop control of the voltage across the energy storage device (C) of the active clamp (18).
