Abstract

A cutting insert for use in face milling and turnable into different working positions. The cutting insert comprises a peripheral surface (10) extending around the cutting insert between a rake face (2) and an opposite abutment face (3), wherein a part of the peripheral surface is provided with ridges (11) and intermediate valleys (12) such that a peripheral edge (20) between the rake face and the peripheral surface has a shape of a toothed ring with external teeth (21). A major cutting edge (30), a surface-wiping cutting edge (31) and a minor corner cutting edge (32) are provided along each tooth (21), wherein the major cutting edge (30) has an entering angle of 75° or more in at least one point along its extension. Each tooth (21) is asymmetric in relation to a reference line that extends perpendicularly to the surface-wiping cutting edge (31) of the tooth and intersects a centre of the surface-wiping cutting edge halfway between two opposite end points thereof.
