Abstract
The present invention relates to method of determining the edge radius, ER, of a cutting edge of a cutting tool using light diffraction. The method comprises the steps of subjecting the cutting edge of the cutting tool to light during a selected exposure time, t, such that light is diffracted by the edge rounding and wherein a light exposed region of the cutting tool is in line of sight from the light source and a shadow region of the cutting tool comprise diffracted light, detecting intensity of the diffracted light from the shadow region of the cutting tool, detecting the intensity in one or more detection points that covers the detection area, and summarizing the intensities detected in all the detection points and achieving the detected intensity, I(det), and determining the ER of the cutting edge by comparing the detected intensity, I(det), with stored intensity data, I(ref), wherein the stored intensity data I(ref) is representative of ER. Then invention also relates to a system for determining ER of a cutting edge of a cutting tool.
