Abstract

A fishing device comprising a bite alarm 100 for use in fishing. The bite alarm comprises a housing 110, a sensor 200 comprising a multi-axis linear hall effect sensor 210 and a roller 120 comprising a magnet 130. The magnet 130 and roller 120 are arranged so as to be rotatable coaxially relative to the sensor 200. The roller 120 is contactable by a fishing line 30 in use so lateral movement of the fishing line 30 causes rotation of the roller 120 and magnet 130 relative to the sensor 200. The position of the roller 120 and both poles 170,180 of the magnet 130 are continuously detectable by the sensor 200. The sensor 200 and roller 120 are disposed within the housing 110. The bite alarm 100 comprises an alarm 250 in communication with the sensor 200 and a change of position of the roller 120 relative to the sensor 200 activates the alarm 250. There is further provided a computer implemented method of detecting movement of a fishing line.
