Abstract

A face milling cutter comprising: - a tool body (2) with insert seats (10), each of which having an internal wall with three support surfaces (21-23) that are distributed about a reference axis (RA) and inclined in order to form a cone-like guiding for a cutting insert; - cutting inserts (30) detachably mountable in different working positions in the insert seats, each cutting insert having first and second major faces (31, 32) on opposite sides of the cutting insert and a peripheral surface with several abutment surfaces (37); and - fastening elements (7) in the form of screws for securing the cutting inserts in the insert seats. The cutting inserts (30) and the insert seats (10) are so adapted to each other that the second major face (32) of each cutting insert is located at a distance from a bottom surface (11) of the associated insert seat when the cutting insert is mounted to the insert seat in any of its working positions.
