Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods adapted for improving gait tracking of individuals having atypical or anomalous walking patterns through the fusion of co-located activity monitoring devices. As described herein, hospital staff and patients can be equipped with activity monitoring devices that are used by the systems and methods to detect proximity of such devices and subsequently update the parameters used to track the gait of the patient. For example, once two or more devices are detected in close proximity (e.g. nurse walking with patient), the estimations from both devices can be compared. Subsequently, estimations for both can be updated by tuning model parameters, e.g., by giving qual weight to both estimations so tuning to reach the average speed, or by weighted tuning based on reliability parameters, that indicate the reliability of individual estimations.
