A drill component comprising: a longitudinal axis extending axially between a first end at an axially forward end and a second end at an axially rearward end; an external surface; and an internal surface; wherein at least part of the external surface is coated with a first nickel-based corrosion protection layer nickel; and at least part of the first corrosion protection layer is coated with a polymer-based sealant top layer.
