Abstract
The present invention discloses a method of treatment and/or prevention of obesity using a composition comprising of brominated diterpenes from red algae of the genus Laurencia as active ingredients and preferably the diterpene neorogioldiol, isolated from Laurencia sp. or chemically synthesized. The said diterpenes suppress pre-adipocyte differentiation to adipocytes, modulate metabolism in 3T3-L1 cells, restrict weight gain and development of glucose intolerance when administered intraperitoneally in vivo, in the mouse model of high fat diet-induced obesity.
