Abstract

A method (100) for controlling a surgical scope (10) includes receiving an image feed (42) including a plurality of images from the surgical scope (10). One or more features (40) or characteristics of the plurality of images are then detected. In response to the one or more features (40) or characteristics, an operating state (36, 38) of the surgical scope (10) is identified in a deployed state (38) wherein the scope (10) is within a patient cavity (14) and alternatively in an undeployed state (36) wherein the scope (10) is outside the patient cavity (14).
