Abstract

An ultrasound system (210) includes an interface, a memory (151), and a processor (152). The interface receives two-dimensional ultrasound images. The memory (151) stores instructions and the two-dimensional ultrasound images. The processor (152) executes the instructions. When executed by the processor (152), the instructions cause the ultrasound system (210) to: for each of a plurality of pixels of each two-dimensional ultrasound image, identify an optimal scale for applying surface shading based on a size of at least one vessel in the two-dimensional ultrasound image; apply surface shading to at least one first pixel based on identifying the optimal scale for the at least one first pixel; and apply surface shading to at least one second pixel based on identifying the second scale as an optimal scale for the at least one second pixel.
