Abstract

A method for downloading a video streaming content over a peer-to-peer, P2P, network having a plurality of nodes, the video streaming content comprising a first portion and a second portion to be played in immediate succession to the first portion. The method comprises: obtaining resource information for the video streaming content indicating that at least one node of the P2P network stores the video streaming content with a first video format and that at least one node of the P2P network stores the video streaming content with a second video format, the second video format having a lower bitrate requirement than the first video format; requesting, from a first node of the P2P network, the first portion in the first video format, and obtaining from the first node first data comprising the first portion in the first video format, wherein the first data comprises first time information providing a time reference for at least one first video frame in the first portion; initiating a playback of the video streaming content in accordance with the first video format; determining, based on a decrease in throughput for downloading the video streaming content, to use the second video format in the playback of the video streaming content; requesting, from a second node of the P2P network, the second portion in the second video format, and obtaining from the second node second data comprising the second portion of the video streaming content in the second video format, wherein the second data comprises second time information providing a time reference for at least one second video frame in the second portion; and processing the first data, the second data, the first time information and the second time information, to transition from the playback of the first portion to a playback of the second portion in accordance with the second video format.
