Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for making thermoset objects via reactive extrusion having a selected smoothness over multiple stacked layers. The controller of the system is configured to print, or the method comprises printing, a stack of layers wherein the deposition rate and the elapsed time per layer are maintained in accordance with certain formulae while depositing multiple layers of the stack of layers. Controlling the deposition rate and elapsed time according to the formulae provides a means for selecting the degree of smoothness of the surface of the printed 3D object and for obtaining printed objects having very smooth surfaces.
