Abstract

A method of machining a workpiece (23) includes receiving at least one input parameter from an ultrasonic impact grinding system (1100) having an ultrasonic vibration tool (1). The input parameter includes a material property of a workpiece (23) and a tool parameter. A physics-based model (1106) is applied to the input parameter and an estimation is made of a vibration amplitude (208) for a power level to be provided to the vibration tool (1) and a particle size (1108) for abrasive particles (24) to be used with the vibration tool (1). The power level is provided to an adaptive profile control (1150) for the tool (1).
