Abstract
A fuel system (12), has: a fuel source (S); a fuel pump (30) connected to the fuel source (S); a metering valve (40) connected to the fuel pump (30) and defining a valve opening (43A) having an area being variable, the metering valve (40) having: an ignition configuration in which the area of the valve opening (43A) corresponds to an ignition area sized to regulate a flow rate through the metering valve (40) to a minimum ignition flow rate, and an ice-shedding configuration in which the area of the valve opening (43A) corresponds to an ice-shedding area being greater than the ignition area; and a controller (100) configured to: configure the metering valve (40) in the ice-shedding configuration to allow the flow rate through the metering valve (40) to be greater than the minimum ignition flow rate to permit ice particles (P0) to flow through the valve opening (43A); and configure the metering valve (40) in the ignition configuration to restrict the flow rate through the metering valve (40).
