Abstract
A multiplexed communication system that can improve wavelength utilization efficiency and simplify the structure in two-way WDM communication is provided. The system includes an optical transmission line 31 for wavelength-multiplexed transmission in a first direction from a communication device 10 to a communication device 20; and an optical transmission line 32 for wavelength-multiplexed transmission in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The communication device 10 performs: first transmission in the first direction; and first two-way communication between the communication devices 10 and 20 in relation to the first transmission. The communication device 20 performs: second transmission in the second direction; and second two-way communication between the communication devices 10 and 20 related to the second transmission. The first transmission and the second transmission use communication light of a first wavelength λ<sub>Q</sub> on the optical transmission lines 31 and 32. The first and second two-way communications use communication light of a wavelength λ1c, λ2c different from the first wavelength λ<sub>Q</sub> on the optical transmission lines 31 and 32.
