Abstract

A device for hair removal or treatment of skin comprises a light source, a capacitor for storing charge for delivery to the light source for generating a flash of treatment light and a power source for charging the capacitor. A switching circuit controls the charging of the capacitor from the power source. It has a low side switch and a first unidirectional current flow component in series for carrying a charging current, and a second unidirectional current flow component second of opposite polarity for carrying a discharging current. In this way, the discharging current does not pass through the switch despite having a low side topology.
