Abstract

A printing apparatus (10) includes: a first detection unit (36) provided on one side of a carriage (32) in a width direction (X); and a second detection unit (38) provided on the other side of the carriage (32) in the width direction (X), at least one of the first and second detection units includes: a light emitting unit (312) configured to emit light to a platen (34) and the print medium (M); a first light receiving unit (322) capable of receiving reflected light from the platen (34) and the print medium (M); and a second light receiving unit (324) capable of receiving the reflected light from the platen (34) and the print medium (M), overlapping the first light receiving unit (322) in the conveyance direction (Y), and spaced apart from the first light receiving unit (322) in the width direction (X).
