Abstract

Disclosed herein is an oral cleaning device (100) comprising: a drive shaft (106) for receiving a cleaning element (118), a reflective element (108) attached to the drive shaft, a mechanical drive (110) for mechanically operating the drive shaft, and an optical sensor (112, 112') configured for measuring a displacement (500, 600) of the drive shaft during operation of the oral cleaning device. The optical sensor comprises at least one light source (114) optically coupled to multiple light sensors (116) via the reflective element to provides optical sensor specific sensor data (138). The execution of the machine executable instructions (128) causes a computational (126) system to: measure (202) the optical sensor specific sensor data if the oral cleaning device is in a stationary state (400), measure (204) the temperature of the optical sensor, determine (206) a sensor specific thermal compensation calibration (140); and store (208) the sensor specific thermal compensation calibration.
