Abstract

Disclosed is a squirrel-cage rotor comprising a core (10). A number of conductor bars (21, 22) is circumferentially distributed around the core, or the rotor, respectively. The conductor bars are integrally provided with shorting rings (51, 52). A reinforcement member (61, 62) covers at least a radially outer surface of a respective shorting ring (51, 52). Each shorting ring and the respective reinforcement member (61, 62) are rigidly joined to each other. The reinforcement members consist of a material different from the material of which the conductor bars and shorting rings are made. The material of the conductor bars and the shorting rings has an electric conductivity larger than the material of the reinforcement members and the material of the reinforcement members has an ultimate strength larger than the material of the conductor bars and the shorting rings.
