Abstract

The present invention relates to an elongated device for medical interventional application, comprising a shell (12) comprising a longitudinal lumen (14). The shell (12) has a main section (20) and a distal terminal section (18). An optical fiber (16) is arranged in the lumen (14) and has a distal tip (17), the optical fiber (16) being configured for optical shape sensing. At least one of the shell (12) and the optical fiber (16) is longitudinally displaceable with respect to the other one of the shell (12) and the optical fiber (16). The device (10) comprises an actuating mechanism (50, 70) configured to displace the at least one of the shell (12) and the optical fiber (16) with respect to the other one of the shell (12) and the optical fiber (16) between an extended state, in which the distal tip (17) of the optical fiber (16) is within the distal terminal section (18) of the shell (12), and a retracted state, in which the distal tip (17) of the optical fiber (16) is in the main section (20) and out of the distal terminal section (18) of the shell (12). A system comprising the elongated device and a computer program are disclosed as well.
