Abstract
A method of operating an air conditioning system (100) includes predicting (1002) power consumption of the air conditioning system (100) during an upcoming demand period; measuring (1004) a storage state of an electrical energy storage device (240) and a storage state of a thermal buffer (802); determining if a combined electrical energy from the electrical energy storage device (240) and thermal energy from the thermal buffer (802) is sufficient to fulfill the predicted power consumption of the air conditioning system (100) for the upcoming demand period; in response to the combined electrical energy from the electrical energy storage device (240) and thermal energy from the thermal buffer (802) being insufficient to fulfill the predicted power consumption of the air conditioning system (100) for the upcoming demand period, starting (1010) a preloading phase; wherein the preloading phase includes at least one of (i) charging the electrical energy storage device (240) or (ii) heating or cooling the thermal buffer (802) using the air conditioning system (100).
