Abstract

Sound suppressor (1) for a firearm (100), comprising:- a tubular casing (3) having a proximal end (3a) adapted to be attached at the muzzle (101) of a firearm (100), a distal end (3b) comprising an end cap (7) with an exit orifice (9) adapted to permit the passage of a projectile;- a core structure (11) situated in the interior of said tubular casing and defining at least one flow disruptor (11a, 11b, 11c, 11d, 11e, 11f) adapted to disrupt flow of propellant gases leaving said muzzle (101), said core structure (11) furthermore defining a projectile passageway adapted to be aligned with a bore of said firearm and adapted to permit the passage of a projectile from said muzzle (101) to said exit orifice (9);- a plurality of water drainage openings (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d, 17e, 17f, 17g, 17h) passing through said tubular casing (3) on an underside thereof;- a shutter (19) comprising a plurality of through-holes (21a, 21b, 21c, 21d, 21e, 21f, 21g, 21h), said shutter (19) being slidably mounted on said tubular casing (3) and displaceable from a first position, in which said water drainage openings (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d, 17e, 17f, 17g, 17h) are aligned with respective through-holes (21a, 21b, 21c, 21d, 21e, 21f, 21g, 21h), and a second position, in which said water drainage openings (17a, 17b, 17c, 17d, 17e, 17f, 17g, 17h) are occluded by said shutter (19).
