Abstract
An optoelectronic sensor which uses a series of transmitters to emit light signals in a monitoring area and at least one receiver to receive them. A control device analyses the received signals and generates an alarm when it detects the presence of an item by interrupting the light signal. This system adopts an optical medium access method based on optical CDMA (O-CDMA), using spread spectrum techniques to ensure an efficient communication between transmitters and receivers. Each pair of photocells is associated with an optical orthogonal code (OOC), designed to minimize interferences with other simultaneous signals. By virtue of the O-CDMA method, the system is capable of identifying the position of the transmitted code and the correct synchronism, even without an explicit synchronization signal, thus improving the reliability of the detection.
