Abstract

In one embodiment of the present disclosure, in order to increase production efficiency of astatine (At)-211, provided is a method for producing At by alpha particle beam irradiation, and the method includes: an installation step S32 for receiving and arranging, in a housing part of a target material container (3), a target material (4) containing bismuth (Bi)-209; a rotation drive irradiation step S40 for irradiating at least a portion of the target material (4) with an alpha particle beam (2) while rotating the target material container (3) around a rotation axis; a transportation step S46, after said step S40, for supplying a carrier gas and sending, through an exhaust pipe, an atmospheric gas around the target material; and a collection step S46 for collecting, from the atmospheric gas, astatine-211 generated from Bi by the irradiating with the alpha particle beam. In a preferred embodiment of the present disclosure, the rotation drive irradiation step is performed with Bi of the target material in a solid state. Further, in a preferred embodiment of the present disclosure, the target material container is heated to a temperature higher than the melting point of Bi and lower than the boiling point of Bi in either or both of the transportation step or the collection step.
