Abstract
A validation tool (100) for determining conformity of leading edges (56) of vanes (32) on an impeller (22) of an aircraft engine (10) includes a support (102) and a probe element (104). The support (102) has a base (103) and a spindle (105) extending away from the base (103), the base (103) being configured to be received on a reference surface (60) of the impeller (22) and the spindle (105) defining a spindle axis (106). The probe element (104) is rotatably mounted on the support (102) and includes an annular body (110) defining a central bore (111) matingly receiving the spindle (105) of the support (102) therein. The probe element (104) is rotatable about the spindle axis (106) and includes a conformal probe (120) thereon extending axially toward the base (103) of the support (102). The conformal probe (120) is configured to have a clearance fit with multiple of the leading edges (56) at a same span-wise position of each, when the probe element (104) is rotated on the spindle (105) of the support (102).
