Abstract
A switched fabric backplane (SFB) system (200) is provided to enable interoperability between Open Compute Project (OCP) hardware and legacy I/O devices compliant with standards such as VPX, SOSA, PXI, or ATCA (206a-206d). The system (200) includes a versatile backplane (206) supporting both OCP-compliant connections and legacy slots. An independent management agent (201), containing a dedicated processor and software, governs a PCI Express (PCIe) switch (202) and an Ethernet switch (207). The PCIe switch (202) connects to central (203) and graphics processing unit (CPU/GPU) (204) assemblies. Through inter-fabric communication (218), the management agent (201) monitors and configures the switches (202, 207), allowing OCP and legacy devices to operate together seamlessly. This integration is achieved while preserving the core architectural characteristics of the legacy I/O standards. The system (200) also includes a Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) storage drive, a power supply module (219), and multiple transceivers (211, 212, 213).
