Abstract
A converter is configured to set a first converter state with a first high-side switch (S<sub>11</sub>) and a second high-side switch (S<sub>12</sub>) being switched on, a first-stage low-side switch (S<sub>b12</sub>) being switched on, and a first low-side switch (S<sub>21</sub>) and a second low-side switch (S<sub>22</sub>) being switched off. The converter is further configured to set a second converter state with the first low-side switch (S<sub>21</sub>) and the second low-side switch (S<sub>22</sub>) being switched on, the first-stage high-side switch (S<sub>b11</sub>) being switched on, and the first high-side switch (S<sub>11</sub>) and the second high-side switch (S<sub>12</sub>) being switched off. The converter may enable to balance one or more voltages across the switches of the switching unit at least in part. This may alleviate, for example, an overvoltage at one of the switches of the switching unit.
