Abstract
An objective of the present teaching is to increase the degree of freedom in assist control while reducing deterioration of the service life of a lead-acid battery in a straddled vehicle. A straddled vehicle includes a lead-acid battery and a control device. The lead-acid battery is a high-charge-acceptance lead-acid battery that has higher charge acceptance performance than a standard automotive lead-acid battery. The control device controls the motoring and the electric power generation of the fixed-field starter generator such that, when the crankshaft rotation assist control that causes the motoring of the fixed-field starter generator using electric power discharged from the high-charge-acceptance lead-acid battery and the electric power generation control that charges the high-charge-acceptance lead-acid battery using electric power generated through rotation of the permanent magnets caused by the crankshaft are each executed multiple times in a period during which the crank shaft is rotating, a level of charge of the high-charge-acceptance lead-acid battery remains within an operating range that exceeds 50% and encompasses values below 80%.
