Abstract

The disclosure describes a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component having a cooling cavity (130). The CMC component has a base (105) having a bottom inner surface (120) and a top outer surface (110), in which the base (105) is made from a plurality of ceramic fiber plies within a matrix. A cooling cavity (130) is provided within the base (105) in which the cooling cavity (130; 235) has an opening in the top outer surface (110) of the base (105). A cover plate (140) made from one or more ceramic fiber plies within a matrix is provided to close the opening of the cooling cavity (130). The cover plate (140) is bonded to the base (105) by simultaneous densification of the base (105) and cooling cavity (130).
