Abstract

There is provided a portable electronic device (100), comprising: a housing member (203) defining a hole (215) extending therethrough; a display (103); a transparent cover (102) over the display (103) and coupled to the housing member (203); a button member (120) positioned along a side of the housing member (203) and defining: a chassis portion (205); and a post (222) extending from the chassis portion (205) and positioned at least partially in the hole (215), the post (222) defining a passage extending through the post (222) from the chassis portion (205) to an end of the post (222); a biometric sensing component (204) coupled to the chassis portion (205); and a flexible circuit element (212) extending through the passage and conductively coupling the biometric sensing component (204) to at least one of a processor, a circuit board, or a conductive connector within the portable electronic device (100).
