Abstract

An apparatus is arranged to generate a data signal comprising compressed data for a biomedical waveform signal and an indication of a property of the compression process used to generate the compressed data from the biomedical waveform signal. A second apparatus includes a receiver (201) receiving the data signal. A decompressor (303) generates a reconstructed biomedical waveform signal by decompression of the compressed data. Further, the second apparatus comprises an adapter (307) which adapts the decompression in dependence on the indication of the property of the compression. The approach may provide a highly efficient and flexible compression of biomedical waveform signals.
