Abstract

An acoustic sensing system is provided for monitoring sounds including sounds from a subject's airway. An acoustic sensor generates an acoustic signal, and a pressure or flow sensor generates a pressure or flow signal relating to the subject's airway. The acoustic signal and the pressure or flow signal are processed to identify secretions. In one aspect, the acoustic signal is processed to filter out sounds associated with the secretions. In another aspect, for each identified secretion, a type is identified from a plurality of different secretion types.
