Abstract

Provided is a parking assistance device (1) for assisting in parking a towing vehicle (2) and a trailer (3) to be towed by the towing vehicle when the towing vehicle and the trailer are connected to each other. The parking assistance device acquires a parking start position and a parking target position, generates a travel trajectory for parking from the parking start position to the parking target position, the travel trajectory including a forward section in which a hitch angle, which is a connection angle between the towing vehicle and the trailer, is adjusted by moving forward along a forward trajectory (41) from the parking start position, and a backward section in which backward movement is performed to the parking target position after the forward section, and sets, on the forward trajectory, a recommended turning position at which a turning operation is recommended to be performed. In the generation of the travel trajectory, the forward trajectory is generated such that, when the towing vehicle travels along the forward trajectory, the hitch angle does not exceed a limit angle at which the backward movement is performable even at a position beyond the recommended turning position.
