Abstract
The present disclosure provides a methacrylic resin having excellent heat resistance and excellent heat decomposition resistance (thermal stability), excellent mechanical properties such as excellent rigidity and excellent surface hardness, and excellent moldability, and provides a method for manufacturing such a methacrylic resin. A methacrylic resin according to the present disclosure contains a methacrylic copolymer (A) consisting of 40 to 99 mass% of a methyl methacrylate (MMA) unit, 1 to 40 mass% of at least one type of isopropenyl aromatic compound unit (UI), and 0 to 30 mass% of at least one type of other units (UO), wherein a glass transition temperature (Tg) is 120°C or higher, and the methacrylic resin satisfies a formula (Mw/Mn)<sub>A</sub>/(Mw/Mn)<sub>B</sub> ≤ 1.40. (Mw/Mn)<sub>A</sub> is a molecular weight distribution determined by a GPC analysis using an absorbance detector having a detection wavelength of 254 nm, and (Mw/Mn)<sub>B</sub> is a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) determined by a GPC analysis using a differential refractive index detector.
