Abstract

An image forming apparatus (101) includes an image forming unit (11) configured to form an image on a recording material. A cover (40) is movable between a first position in which the cover covers an upper portion of the image forming unit and a second position in which the cover opens the upper portion of the image forming unit. A document reading unit (30) is provided above the image forming unit and above the cover and that is moveable independently of the cover. A leg (341; 342) that is positioned above the cover and below the document reading unit, and that is moveable together with the document reading unit. A first hinge (33) rotatably supports the document reading unit and the leg in relation to the image forming unit. An operation member (513) is operated when a person moves the cover from the first position to the second position.
