Abstract

Load absorption device (100) to be used with a vehicle seat (200) is provided. The device comprises a rail arrangement comprising an upper rail (1) configured to be connected to a lower side of the vehicle seat (200), and a lower rail (2) configured to be fixedly connected to a top surface of a vehicle floor. The upper and the lower rails are slidingly connected to each other to allow a longitudinal mutual displacement between the upper rail and the lower rail. The device further comprises a bracket (4) fixedly connected to the lower rail or configured to be fixedly connected to a floor of the vehicle, a strip (3) having first leg (15A) having a first end (16A), a second leg (15B) having a second end (16B), and a curved portion (15C) intermediate the first and second legs, and a locking arrangement having a first sub-arrangement (5) being fixedly connected to the bracket, and a second sub-arrangement (6) being releasably connected to the first sub-arrangement. The first leg is slidably arranged in the bracket, and the second leg is fixedly connected, directly or indirectly, to the upper rail and to the second sub-arrangement. Upon an actuation of the locking arrangement, the connection between the first and the second sub-arrangements is released, whereby the second sub-arrangement, the second end of the strip and the upper rail are allowed to displace in a first direction away from the bracket while the first end of the strip is allowed to translate in a second direction. Further a vehicle occupant protection system and a method of operating such system is provided.
