Abstract

Provided is a light-transmitting article comprising, on an outer surface of a base material, an antireflection layer that has a laminated structure of two or more materials with different refractive indexes, and comprising, on an outer surface of the antireflection layer, a protection layer composed of a material free of fluorine atoms. The variance in visible reflectance at the surface of the article due to the presence or absence of the protection layer is less than 0.5%, and the variance in visible reflectance at the surface of the article before and after the following alkali resistance test is less than 1.0%. With this light-transmitting article, the optical properties of the antireflection layer do not vary before and after formation of the protection layer, whereby an antireflection layer-equipped article (light-transmitting article) having a protection layer is achieved that exhibits excellent alkali resistance.[Alkali resistance test]A test article is immersed in a 0.4 mass% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (test solution) at 55°C and removed from the test solution after three hours. Pure water is poured over the test article for one minute to remove any remaining test solution, and moisture on the surface of the test article is removed by blowing with dry air.
