Abstract

A process for the production of sulfuric acid and hydrogen from acid gases comprising: a) providing bromine (3); b) providing acid gas (1) comprising hydrogen sulfide and ammonia; c) reacting the acid gas with bromine in a first reaction zone (5) to obtain a first liquid phase (7); e) mixing the obtained first liquid phase with an additional amount of bromine (17) and water (19) in a second reaction zone (15) to obtain a second liquid phase (21), g) performing a first distillation on the second liquid phase, to obtain a sulfuric acid-containing stream (33) and a sixth stream (43) comprising hydrogen bromide and/or bromine; i) performing a second distillation on the sulfuric acid-containing stream to obtain a fifth stream (39) comprising sulfuric acid and a seventh stream (45) comprising hydrogen bromide and/or bromine; j)subjecting the seventh stream to an electrolysis reaction to obtain a hydrogen-containing stream (47) and a bromine-containing stream (49).
