Abstract

The invention is about an electrolysis system (01) for the electrolysis of CO2 comprising. For the electrolysis process a plurality of electrolysis cells (02) is required. An electrolyte reservoir (04) with connection to the electrolysis cells (02) and a cleaning system (06) is provided. To enlarge the operational time for the electrolysis system (01) it is foreseen that an electrolyte can pass through the cleaning system (06) during operation of the electrolysis system (01), wherein the cleaning system (06) comprises a formate reduction module (21). Here, a first separation column (22) and a second separation column (23) are arranged fluidly in parallel, which enables an alternating flow. The separation columns (22, 23) have a resin filling to enable a reduction of formate.
